RE: Blocked Railroad Crossings
' -D6ar 'MaybT-Ol~on; ...........................
First and foremost, thank you for notifying Montana Rail Link of the serious situation when
both railroad crossings leading into the southwest area of town were blocked at the same
time. Prior to your letter, our Chief of Security had spoken with Chief of Police Rick
Musson about this and we were researching the incident and solutions.
Working with MRL Director of Transportation, we have a procedure in place whereas the
MRL Chief DiSpatcher, Regional Dispatcher, and Laurel Assistant Trainmaster
monitor inbound and outbound traffic to and from the south and west to keep at least one
~mssing free of any sustained traffic. This should reasonably control the flow of trains and
insure access to that part of Laurel.
However, with the increased volume of train traffic through Laurel, Montana Rail Link will
be very.busy this year. Should any situation arise where emergency responders find their
mute disabled, a call to one of the following numbers will initiate an immediate response to
the train traffic:
MRL Chief Dispatcher: 406-523-1463
: Regional Dispatcher: 406-523-1562
- Laurel ATM: 406~628-3270 Or 628-3272
Again, thank you for bringing this to our attention; we look forward to continuing a
successful working relationship with the City of Laurel staff.
