Old Business
The management budget was approved by the Council. Library staff each received a$0.60 per
hour raise starting July 1, 2016.
The Bonnie Preikszas estate has notified the Director that Laurel Public Library has been
designated as a recipient for a large donation. Nancy will contact Shirley about filling out the
paperwork to receive the donation.
Nancy called River Ridge to determine when the flower boxes would be completed. The library
is scheduled for next week.
The performance evaluation training given by Pat Wagner in Bozeman on June 11th was very
informational. The ideas and concepts are directed at Board members rather than Directors but
the information shared could be used by anyone in a management position. It would be an
excellent idea for all Board members to attend this type of training in the future.
New Business
Nancy attended the Federation Coordinator's meeting in Helena as well as the Montana State
Library Commission meeting. She explained in detail the issue the State Library is having with
Coal Severance Tax monies and why the EBSCO database was one of the items cut from the
State Library budget. The loss of the EBSCO database will be felt more by school libraries than
by public libraries. The State Library is looking for free or lower-cost alternatives to the EBSCO
database for our patrons.
The Summer Reading Program is off to a great start. Over 100 children signed up for the
program. Our weekly activities will be at 1:00 pm each Wednesday until the end of July. Timed
reading records will be accepted until July 29th. We hope to have all grand prizes given out by
August 12th.
World Book Online has been part of our learning access for patrons for the last 6 years. The
price has continued to rise but online use has become stagnant. After some discussion Dixie
motioned that we discontinue with World Book Online and instead purchase a new set of
encyclopedias for use in the library. Clair seconded the motion. Motion passed.
The possibility of a fall book sale was discussed. The idea was presented that we tentatively plan
a book sale for the week prior to when the church in Billings holds their book sale. We are
looking at around October 24th, 2016.
Election of Board officers was discussed. Clair motioned that officers remain the same as last
year. Bill seconded the motion. Motion passed. Rose Mare Kline will remain Board Chair,Dixie
Feller will remain Vice-Chair and Clair Killebrew as Federation Representative.Nancy stated
that there is still a vacancy on the board and would like to see some suggestions from other
members.
Dixie motioned the Board meeting be adjourned, Bill seconded the motion. Motion passed,
meeting adjourned at 6:57 pm.
