Dear Laurel Parents, Business Owners and Community Leaders:
Four years ago, Laurel Middle School instituted Friday Fun Night in response to a need
to provide safe and drug flee activities for our youth. For two hours on selected Friday
evenings, Laurel Middle School students have a place to go for fun, food and friends.
More than 100 kids have attended each time. Friday Fun Nights are free for all Laurel
Middle School students.
The gym is open for basketball, volleyball and kickball games. Kids canplay board
games and cards, play ping pong or watch a movie. Depending on the weather, some
students will be. outside playing games or looking at the moon, stars and planets through
the Art/Astronomy Club's telescopes. Some students simply sit in the blenehers or
amphitheater and "hang out" with their friends.
Dinner is served with the help of our Laurel Middle School PTSA./n the past, we have
had spaghetti, taco soup, chill, hamburgers and hotdogs along with homemade cookies
and beverages.
An added attraction is door prizes. T-shirts, food and drink coupons, beanie babies,
c.andy, duffel bags, etc. have been awarded as prizes. At least thirty to forty prizes are
gtven away at each event.
We have again scheduled six Friday Fun Nights throughout the year with our first on
October 13t~ from 5-7 p.m. All parents are welcome to attend.
We have had generous support fi:om the Laurel businesses and many of our parents have
donated time, energy and money. We are asking for your continued help in offering our
middle school students the opportunity for a healthy and safe place to be on one Friday
night a month. If you can help with planning, chaperoning, food donations, prize
donations or money, please emil Para Warner, Laurel Middle School Counselor at 628-
3330 or Bonnie Flanagan, PTSA Officer at 628 - 8819.
If you simply want to send in a donation, it can be dropped off or mailed to the Laurel
Middle School office. Please specify that it is for the Friday Fun Night Fund.
