HomeMy WebLinkAboutTree Board Minutes 05.19.2016 Tree Board a d Meeting — May 19, 2016 Attending: Kurt Markegard, Pat Hart, LuAnne Engh, Aaron Christensen Arbor Day • It went fine, however, coverage in the Outlook was poor, no article and a disappointing photo. There wasn't anything about the Laurel being a tree city or how the trees are chosen for the park • For next year, LuAnne would like us to do something like Billings did in North Park with the 4th graders from the Heights (100 students) —Aaron said we'd have to start now if we want to do that, since Billings is already organizing their Arbor Day. We could do something small, possibly at Riverside Park where we have the big trees that need trimming and there is plenty of need for new trees since the flood • Kurt is going to send out a bid for trees in Elena next week. He has the plans drawn up and we decided we needed 2" caliper trees. Ideas for trees around the pond (5) and the parkway(3) 1. Fallgold Ash 2. Crimson Hawthorne 3. Linden 4. Hackberry 5. Honey Locust 6. Manchurian Ash New Ideas • Articles about tree care and watering in the Outlook— especially in August • Help offered to homeowners who need trees trimmed or help selecting trees Combined committees • The tree board could combine with either the Cemetery Board or the Park Committee • LuAnne is on Parks and has been on the Cemetery Board—doesn't feel the Tree concerns would get covered in the Park Meetings. Cemetery and Tree Board could be an option if people had interest in both areas Next Meeting— September 15th— 9:00
