June 6, 1978
A regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Laurel, Mont.,
was held in the Council Chambers, and was called to order by Mayor Larry D.
Herman at 7:00 o'clock, P.M., on Tuesday, June 6, 1978.

invocation given by the Reverend Wilhelm.
COUNCIL MEMBERS PRESENT: Ervin Metzger Ronald Massey
Sue Carter Charles Rodgers
Donald Meyers Thomas Kilpatrick
Harold E. Burns Albert Ehrlick
COUNCIL MEMBERS ABSENT: None
MINUTES•
The minutes of the last regular meeting of May 16, 1978, were
approved as corrected by Alderman Burns who asked that the word seasonal
be deleted from his motion regarding the Mayor being authorized to employ
the help needed.
CORRESPONDENCE:
Letter from HKM regarding joint venture with STR.
Motion by Alderman Kilpatrick: That the Mayor be given authority to
sign the agreement which assigns the existing engineering service
agreements to HKM. Seconded by Alderman Rodgers. Carried.
Letter from Dept of Environmental Sciences regarding MPDES Permit
No. MT-0020311.
Motion by Alderman Meyers: That the Mayor be given authority to sign
request .for Section 301 (i)(1) Extension. Seconded by Alderman Ehrlick.
Motion carried.
MAYOR'S APPOINTMENTS:
Police Department for a probationary period of one year.

MARION HOUGH - Annexation of Certificate of Survev No 1780
RESOLUTION NO. 1678
BEING A RESOLUTION EXTENDING THE BOUNDARIES OF THE CITY OF LAUREL, MONTANA TO
INCLUDE CERTIFICATE OF SURVEY NO. 1780 (616 8th Ave.)
Motion by Alderman Ehrlick: That Resolution No. 1678 be passed and
adopted. Seconded by Alderman-Meyers. Carried.
FRICKEL AND HERMAN ANNEXATION: Certificate of Survev No 1672
Motion by Alderman Massey: To accept the recommendation of the
Planning Board. Seconded by Alderman Carter.

Petitions both for and against were presented to the council.
Roll call vote of the council showed Metzger, Massey, Carter, and
Kilpatrick voting "Yes" with Rodgers, Meyers, Burns and Ehrlick voting "NO".
This. being a tie vote, the Mayor voted in favor of the-City C unty Planning

DAVID K. POWERS, FIRE CHIEF:
Permission to enter into a contract with Fire District No. 5 in the
amount of $2,333.00.
Motion by Alderman Kilpatrick: To enter into a contract with Fire
District #5. Seconded by Alderman Rodgers. Carried.
Permission to send one fireman to the firemen's convention on June
15th, 16th and 17th.
Minutes of the City Council of Laurel
ALBERT EHRLICK: Street and Allev Committee Report.
Motion by Alderman Ehrlick: That the City Clerk write a letter to
Darigold products in Bozeman to instruct the company to install curb
and gutter on the north and west side of their Laurel business, and
sidewalk on Main Street. Seconded by Alderman Kilpatrick. Carried.
The matter of the Sweeper to be referred to the Finance Committee
for consideration at budget time.
GUNTER - REDMAN STREET VACATION:
RESOLUTION N0. 1679
BEING A NOTICE OF INTENTION TO VACATE CERTAIN LANDS IN THE CITYOF LAUREL, MT.
Motion by Alderman Ehrlick: That Resolution No. 1679 be declared
passed and adopted. Seconded by Alderman Rodgers. Carried.
JERRY PERCIVAL - JAYCEES:
Permission for the Jaycees to close part of the Street between the
hours of 6:00 o'clock P.M., and 2:00 A.M., on the night of July 3rd, 1978 to
have a street dance and sell beer.
Motion by Alderman Metzger: That permission be granted. Seconded
by Alderman Carter. Carried.
Permission asked to give the annual J.C. pancake breakfast in Firemen's
park on July 4th.
Motion by Alderman Massey: That permission be granted. Seconded by
Alderman Ehrlick. Carried.
ALDERMAN.MASSEY - Public bailding and Property Committee Minutes.
Motion by Alderman Kilpatrick: That the Public Building and property
Committee be given .permission to rent the pasture land at the water
reservoir-and to set the fee. Seconded by .Alderman Ehrlick. Carried.
Motion by Alderman Massev: That the Public Building and Property
Committee Minutes be introduced into the minutes. Seconded by
Alderman Metzger. Carried.
ALDERMAN CARTER•
Swimming Pool to open June 11th.
Manager, Lifeguards and basket personnel have-been hired.
Motion by Alderman Carter: To introduce the Park and Recreation
Committee minutes into the official minutes. Seconded by Alderman
Ehrlick. Carried.

Motion by Alderman Metzger: -That the claims for the month of May .tie-
approved.. Seconded by Alderman Carter: Motien harried.:
MAYOR'S COMMENTS:
Motion by Alderman Kilpatrick: That Mayor Herman and Alderman
Ehrlick be granted permission to leave the state. Seconded by Alderman
Ehrlick. Carried.
Kristine Haugen has been retained to test water at the water plant.
Mayor authorized to sign the necessary documents.
Mayor called a personnel meeting and cleared the Council Chambers
Minutes of the. City Council of Laurel
There being no further business to come before the council at this
time, the meeting was adjourned.
