May 16, 1978
A regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Laurel, Montana,
was held in the Council Chambers, and was called to order by Mayor Larry D.
Herman, at 7:00 o'clock, P.M., May 16, 1978.
COUNCIL MEMBERS PRESENT:

Ronald Massey
Albert Ehrlick
Donald Meyers
Harold Burns
COUNCIL MEMBERS ABSENT:
MINUTES:
The minutes of the last regular meeting of May 2, 1978, were
approved as presented.
CORRESPONDENCE:
Letter from Murr Isaacs regarding sidewalk on the north side of
Main Street to 8th Ave. This matter referred to the Street and Alley Com~.
~RMAN AND FRICKEL ANNEXATION:
The City County Planning Board has postponed their decision until
May 24, 1978. This matter deferred until the next regular council meeting.
PUBLIC HEARING FOR PRE-APPLICATION TO H.U.D. NO. S~-78-30-0006
This being the time and place advertised for a public hearing on
the pre-application to H.U.D. for the 7th Ave. Sewer Interceptor Line. No
one present to protest this application.
BIDS ON CITY EQUIPMENT:
Marvin Metzger - 1955-1956 farmall 300 utility tractor with loader
Total Bid ............... $501.00
Pat Johnson - 1952 Chevrolet Pickup ..................... $26.59
Jim Redman - 1952 Chevrolet Pickup ..................... $110.00
Motion by Alderman Burns: To accept the two high bids. The one
from M. Metzger for $501.00 and the one from J. Redman for $110.00
Seconded by Alderman Ehrlick. Carried.
Motion by Alderman Ehrlick: That the Public Property Committee be
given the authority to dispose of the other vehicles that were not
bid on. Seconded by Alderman Meyers. Carried.
MAYOR'S APPOINTMENTS:
Library Board: Olliemae Gass
~otion by Alderman Carter: To approve this appointment. Seconded
by Alderman Massey. Carried.
Gambling Commission: Darrell Keck
Motion by Alderman Burns: To approve this appointment. Seconded
by Alderman Meyers. Carried.
PRE-APPLICATION FOR 701 FUNDS:
Motion by Alderman Ehrlick: That the Mayor be given the authority
to sign all necessary forms to apply for 701 funds. Seconded by
Alderman Meyers. Carried.
CHUCK RODGERS - PUBLIC HEALTH AND GARBAGE COMMITTEE:
Motion by Alderman Metz~er: That the Public Health and Garbage
Committee minutes dated May 10, 1978, be introduced into the
Minutes of the City Council of Laurel
Discussion regarding cement slabs under garbage cans.
Motion by Alderm~n Eh~lick: That any individual wanting to put in
a cement slab to accomodate their garbage can be allowed to do so.
Seconded by Alderman Burns. CarriedD
STREET OPENINGS:
Discussion regarding repairs after a street is opened.
ALBERT EHRLICK- STREET AND ALLEY COMMITTEE:
Discussion regarding a new sweeper.
Motion by Alderman Meyers: That consideration be given to increasing
the garbage rate to accomodate a sweeper. Seconded by Alderman
Ehrlick. Carried, with Alderman Rodgers voting "No".
Motion by Alderman Burns: That the Street and Alley Committee
Minutes dated May 8, 1978, be introduced into the minutes. Seconded
by Alderman Meyers. Carried.
Motion by Alderman Burns: That the Mayor be given authority to hire
some seasonal employees immediately. Seconded by Alderman Meyers.
Carried, with Alderman Massey and Burns voting "NO".
TOM KILPATRICK:
Discussion regarding Emergency Snow Removal and the Insect Control
funds.
There being no further business to come before the council at this
time, the meeting was adjourned.
