Judy Matte ~d Kenne~ Weaver have retired kom their work at the Center a~r
~enW-one y~s. ~e Lo~ Gove~ent Center will ~ntinue its work of providing
~aining, rese~ch ~d technical assismce throughout the s~te. We me also expanding
our activities. Heather McCmney has recently been hired to ~e new position of
Adminis~ative Assis~nt. Heather is enomously over-qualified for the job; she h~ a
Bachelors de~ee in A~cul~al Education, ~d has work~ on numerous extension
education projects in Monmn~ on Native American mse~ations, in Mali, West Africa,
~d in R~sia. Hea~er brings high level computer skills which will ~low us m provide
mom infomation
We me b ~e process cfa ~amwide se~ch for a new Associate Director ~d
hope to have ~e position fill~ soon. In addition, a nationwide se~ch is ~d~ay to hire
a CommuniW Development Specialist who will be locaed b ~e Loml Government
Center. This is a new position for us, ~d indicates a ~owing p~nemhip with MSU-
Extension Se~ice.
Sociologist Dr. Steven Swinfor¢ an expe~ on conductbg sumeys, is p~nerbg
wi~ the Local Government Center to provide his se~ices to our constituents as well. A
su~ey of ~e stares of ciW a~omeys in Mont~a is unde~ay, at ~e request of Montana's
mayors, and the results will be available in mid-July. Next hll, we will also have ~o
Graduate Re~mch Assis~n~ working in ~e Center under the direction of Center s~,
Extension facul~ and Political Science Dep~ment hculW. If you have resemch
questio~ or needs, please let us know and we'll get the research going.
There will be some disruption b the Center this summer while some cons~uction
~d rewiring is unde~ay. We will provide noti~ of~at schedule as soon as it is
finalized. Look for our new webpage in mid-July.
