DPW OFFICE MEMBERS PRESENT: Chairman Bud Johnson Chuck Rodgers Ken Olson Gay Easton Mark Mace OTHERS PRESENT: Mary Embleton Rick Musson Jan Faught V. Joe Leckie Jim Stevens The committee conducted second round budget reviews with department heads asking them to advise the committee as to their department's priorities. City Attorney Joe Leckie presented his list and discussion followed regarding wages, staff, and a Crime Victims' Fund. The committee identified $9,440 in reductions based on Joe's recommendations. Police Chief Rick Musson also presented a priority list. After discussion, the committee identified $10,700 in budget reductions. The outside lighting project for the FAP building will be 3A done this year and lA next year. Fire Chief Jim Stevens recommended that the fire truck ($175,000) be removed from the budget, as it is not scheduled for replacement until 2002. The total budget reduction identified was $185,000. The department is upgrading all trucks and equipment in order to achieve an ISO rating of 4 within the next five years. Jim informed the committee that he is still working on a solution for a repeater site. Ambulance Director Jan Faught stated that the ambulance needs to keep an adequate staff to continue to provide quality service, and that one way to do this is to have a full-time director to fill in the gaps. She proposed reductions totaling $3,550.00, which were accepted by the committee. The space requirements to receive the free computer will be met by setting up an office in the council chambers building. After much review and discussion, this session reduced the General Fund appropriations by $208,690.
