JUNE 20, 2006
DPW CONFERENCE ROOM
The Tree Board met at 1:30 P.M.on June 20~. The minutes of the previous meeting were read
and approved.
A quorum being present, the tree ordinance 005-01 was reviewed. Most oftbe suggested
revisions allowed the City to act on the specifications in the ordinance without a meeting of the
Board.
The tree list was revised to delete the Regent Service Berry and the Korean Lilac, and to
replace them with Atmunn Brilliance Sev/ice Berry and Japanese Tree Lilac. Steven Klotz
reported the Leprauchan Ash had been planted by the Western Bank where the new sidewalks had
removed the previous trees.
Gay Easton reported that an intern from MSU-B may be available to inventory the city trees if
we contact the college early in the school year. The GPS system may be undertaken by late June
or early July. This is the location of trees in the city jurisdiction.
Steve Klotz and Jennie Johnson will work on breaking down the budget for trees and
maintenance to qualify the city as a "Tree City". In order to do so, $2.00 per capita must be
spent, amounting to $13,500 for Laurel. Steve thinks we will qualify easily, considering all
streets, parks, and cemetery. Jerafie Johnson will get in touch with the State Advisory Tree Agent
in Missoula.
Memorial plaques will be set by trees in parks as soon as JTL is finished with paving.
The next meeting will be on July 18t~ at 2 P.M.
Respectfully Submitted,
Lois Markegard
