"Big Box" Seminar Informational Meeting
March 30th, 2006
The Informational Meeting was held at the Chamber Office at noon to 1:15--lunch was
brought in fi.om Pizza Hut. The meeting was in regards to obtaining information
concerning a proposal made by J.T. Smith of the Beartooth Resource Conservation and
Development District.
In attendance were President Dee Dee Crider, Past President, Bob O'Dea, Co-Vice
President, Jerry Banck, Director, Steve Diefenderfer, Director, Shelly Townsend and
Secretary, Joanne Flynn.
Guest Presenter; JT Smith presented the opportunity to hold a Seminar for Laurel
businesses, which will be presented by Patrick H. McGaugher. The Title of the seminar
is "Succeeding in a Big Box World" The seminar is to benefit small business when facing
the challenge of "Big Business (Wal-Mart) opening in the local area
After much discussion- it was decided that the chamber will co-partner with Beartooth to
obtain the services of Mr. McGaughey at the cost of $3,000.
It was also decided that the chamber members will solicit larger business owners to
sponsor the event. Suggested sponsorship cost will be $300.00 and each sponsor may
bring in up to 4 employee's to the seminar. Business's that do not sponsor will have a
registration cost of $20.00 per person, however if the business is a Chamber Member the
cost shah be reduced to $10.00 per person.
