Recommendation on Engineering Proposal - Interstate Engineerino
Dick explained this meeting was called make a recommendation to thc council regarding
the engineering proposal from Interstate Engineering.
Motion by Loyd, seconded by Lee to recommend to the City Council to adopt a
resolution to accept and approve the comprehensive proposal, dated February 21st
and March 14th, for engineering services prepared by Interstate Engineering for the
City of Laurel's Cemetery.
Discussion followed and it was stated these proposals address three items. 1. Capacity of current pump and pipe
2. Mapping of existing cemetery
3. Layout sprinkler design for existing cemetery
Dick reported that a meeting was held with Commissioner Bill Kennedy at the cemetery
last Friday to continue the discussion of a military cemetery on state land north of Airport
Road. If the city can obtain the triangular piece of property adjacent to the cemetery, the
county is interested in extending Airport Road to Buffalo Trail. The suggestion was
made to construct a drive through to connect the cemetery sections on either side of
Airport Road.
There is a need for military cemeteries. Forty acres are required and we have that
acreage available. However, we are asking for an additional 60 -100 acres from the state
section north of Airport Road.
An informational meeting regarding the military cemetery will be held on March 28th ~
8:00 a.m. in City Hall.
Water issues have been discussed during joint meetings with county commissioners and
future possibilities are as follows.
· Pump water into a pond area north of Airport Road to use as an alternate soume
· Use the runoff from a new runway to help feed the pond
· Pump water from the Highline into the Cove Ditch
* New city reservoir in the future
A vote was taken on the motion. Motion carried.
This recommendation will go to the Council Workshop on April 11 th and to Council on
April 18th.
Motion by Lee, seconded by Loyd to adjourn the meeting. Motion carried.
Meeting adjourned at 5:42 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Cathy Gabrian
