HomeMy WebLinkAboutMontana Dept. of Commerce (2)M. ON Del~artment of Commerce PUBLIC INPUT MEETINGS ON HOUSING AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT NEEDS You're invited to tell us about your community's housing, public facilities, and economic and other community development needs. We are preparing the statewide Consolidated Plan (CP) and citizen participation is critical to our statewide planning process. Developed with information from interested citizens (especially Iow- and moderate-income citizens), local government officials, statewide and regional institutions and other organizations (including businesses, developers, community and faith-based organizations) and public and private agencies that provide assisted housing, health services, and social services, the CP is used to identify needs and allocate resources to Montana communities and residents. Montana's statewide CP is also an annual. document submitted to the U.S. Depadment of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), combining the application and planning process for three housing and community development programs: the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and Home Investment Partnerships (HOME) programs, administered by the MT Department of Commerce, and the Emergency Shelter Grant (ESG) Program, administered by the MT Department of Public Health & Human Services. Together, these grant programs receive approximately $12 million per year that is distributed to Montana's communities. The CP is also intended to be a resoume for use by local communities to assist them in determining their own highest needs for affordable housing, infrastructure, economic development, and other community development needs. It describes housing markets and conditions; includes data on the economy, homelessness and population characteristics; identifies community development needs including public facility and economic development needs; provides an inventory of housing services and programs; describes priorities and actions for state housing and community development; and outlines the expected resources available, types of activities to be funded, the geographic distribution of :. funds, and actions for the upcoming plan year (4/1/07-3/31/08). Montana's Consolidated Plan covers the entire state, excluding the cities of Billings, Great Falls, and Missoula, which receive their own funding allocations from HUD. So, don't miss this opportunity to provide input on your community's needs and Montana's draft 2007- 2008 Consolidated Plan Annual Action Plan.
