WHAT IF?
What if your family and your community are abruptly faced with disaster?. It could be an
earthquake, pandemic flu, catastrophic eruption of the Yellowstone Caldera, or a terrorist attack on
our food supply.
Are you and your family ready? Is your community ready?
Please join me at the first Governor's Emergency Preparedness Summit, May 22-25 in Billings to

respond to catastrophic events that could strike Montana.
A half day of the Summit will be devoted to Pandemic Flu Preparedness, another half day will be
devoted to Agricultural Emergency Preparedness and the potential impact on public health and
safety, in addition to potential economic impact on Montana's biggest industry. Other topics will
include-the intergovernmental lessons to be learned from Hurricane Katrina, progress on our
Montana-wide Interoperable Communications efforts, and issues specific to emergency responders
in a number of disciplines.
National speakers and panels of national, state and local experts will share their experience and
perspective. I have invited emergency managers and responders, elected jurisdictional leaders
and their administrators, tribal representatives, community leaders, federal and state government
partners, private industry representatives and volunteers from across the state and nation, and
some of their counterparts in neighboring Canadian provinces.
