You are receiving this letter because you may have an interest in transportation services
for the residents of the Laurel community. I would like to extend an invitation to you to
attend an informative, information-gathering meeting on Thursday, March 9, 2006 at
10:30 AM. This meeting will be held at the Laurel Senior Center located at 720 South
Fourth Street (this is across the street from the Laurel pond).
In July of 2005, Congress passed the Transportation Equity Act for the 21st Century
(TEA.-21) which is the nations six-year transportation bill. The bill authorizes additional
funding for mass transit, including rural transit for seniors and disabled individuals. The
Yellowstone Coartty Council on Aging (YCCOA) and the Montana Department of
Transportation, along with your Yellowstone County Commissioners, would like you to
attend thi.s meeting to hear more abont the funding opportunities and to investigate ways
we can'w6rk itogether to improve the current services and look at future needs.
Currently, YCCOA provides transportation service for seniors and disabled individuals
who reside in Laurel. Transportation service is provided within Laurel during the week
between I0 am mad 2 pm. Transportation service is also available to/froTM Billings on
Wednesdays (except the fourth Wednesdays). Any type of trip is eligible for service.
People in need of transportation benefit from improved transportation services when
service providers coordinate their efforts. Therefore, the purpose of the March 9t~
meeting will be to identify ways that YCCOA and its partners can improve the access of
seniors and disablell individuals to the Laurel lYansportation Program and as a result,
improve the level of mobility for individuals who are transportation disadvantaged.
If you would like to stay for lunch (cabbage rolls) after the meeting at a cost of $4.50
please call Pat Vandell at 259-9666 and let her know you will be at the meeting and
