Requests for Nomination for Eugene T. Carroll Award
Once again the Yellowstone Historic Preservation Board is requesting nominations for the
annual Eugene T. Carroll Historic Preservation Award. We invite you to nominate an
individual, organi?atjon or team project that you think should be recognized for dedication to
historic preservation in Yellowstone County. Pleas~ submit your nomination by February t 5,
2006, to allow adequate time to review the nominees. We will announce the recipient and the
oth~: nominees of the 2006 award at the the sixth annual Historic Preservation Roundtable,
sponsored by MSU-Billings Downtown. The Roundtable will be held on March 21, 2006, from
7:30 to 9:30 a.m., at the historic Masonic Iemple in the Broadway 111 Sc~ainar Room
We hope you'll join us at the Historic Preservation Roundtable in Man:h. We also extend an
invitation to .qhare any historic pres~wation ideas and concerns you may have at our monthly
board meeting, which is held at 8:00 a.m_ onthe third Tuesday of each month in the City's fourth
floor conference room of ibc Parmly Billings Library.

Eugene T. Carroll
Eugene T. Carroll was an organiTer for the Eastern Montana Historical Society,
former president of the Yellowstone Historical Society and, until his death in 2001, a
board member of the Yellowstone Historic Preservation Board. The Yellowstone
Historic Preservation Board continues to honor his marly volunteer hours and efforts
on behalf of historic preservation and historical education by recognizing the work of
others in thin field through the annual Eugene T. Carroll Historic Preservation ~lward.
The winners of the award in 2005 were David Eckroth and Harold Hagen, who
were reeo~tmiTed for their comprehensive research on Baker's Battle on the
Yellowstone, a military conflict that took place between U.S. soldiers and the
combined forces of Sioux, Cheyenne and Arapaho warriors in August, 1872. Eckroth
and Hagen, working with the National Park Service's American Battlefield Protection
Program and the Frontier Heritage Alliance, have been at the forefront of historical
interpretation and preservation at Baker's Battlefield for more thart seven years.
The Yellowstone Historic Preservation Board is currently accepting
nomin~ions for the 2006 Eugene T. ('arroll Historic Preservation ~lward. We will
announce the recepient and the other nominees of next year's award at the the sixth
annual Historic Preservation Roundtable, which will be held on March 21, 2006, from
7:30 to 9:30 a.m., at the historic Masomc Temple in the Broadway III Seminar Room.
