EMERGENCY SERVICES COMMITTEE
NOVEMBER 23,2015

Safety Mill Levy—New Direction
The committee discussed new direction in which they could get needed funds for the police, fire,
and ambulance services after the Safety Mill Levy failed to pass in the November election.
Laurel doesn't have an oil tax or a resort tax to help with funding. Discussion to possibly pursue
an option tax on gas in the City of Laurel.
It was discussed to break it up and look for funding for one department. This was discouraged
because emergency services include all three.
The committee commented that they would not stop looking for ideas. It was suggested that they
get direction from the council. Doug said he will put it on the workshop agenda for ideas.
