DEPARTMENT HEAD MEETING
OCTOBER 31, 2005 8:00 A.M.

Council Workshop Agenda - November 8t~ · Planning Board items will be submitted this week.
· No further discussion.
Announcements
· Election is on Tuesday, November 8th.
· Process for updating job descriptions
o Process will start with department head job descriptions.
o Perry asked the department heads to try to get their job description as close as
possible to what the job includes.
o After the department head job descriptions are returned to him, Perry will
distribute copies of the job descriptions for each department for review.
o Perry is working on a pay scale grid, the pay classifications, and the process to
update job descriptions.
o Department head job descriptions should be returned within two weeks.
o The end of the year is the tentative timeline to complete the remaining job
descriptions.
o Discussion regarding the draf~ job descriptions prepared by Paul Hurter.
· Perry will review them and will use the same format for the updated job
descriptions.
· Discussion regarding a program of recognition for years of service with the City of
Laurel
o Perry stated that the city needs to recognize employees for milestone years of
service.
o Rick stated that officers that have served 20 years would like to keep their duty
weapon.
o Perry asked for suggestions of items that people would use.
· Video conferencing equipment
o Mayor has signed the contract.
o Rick and Perry will discuss and contact VisionNet, who will order and have the
T-1 line installed.
· Discussion regarding union contract and non-union wage adjustments
o Union contract is on the November 1st COuncil agenda.
· If the contract is approved, the payout to union members will be
completed this week.

o Perry has prepared a spreadsheet for non-union employees, and some further
adjustments are needed to get the pay scale grid in line.
· The non-union wage adjustments should go forward to the council at the
November 8t~ council workshop and the November 15th council meeting.
· Discussion regarding a GIS Homeland Security Grant
o Steve and Cal attended a meeting regarding pictography recently.
o Annette Cabrera has requested input from the fire and police departments
regarding how this new GIS application would be useful to them.
o Discussion regarding E-911 and 911
o Cal will give some information to Rick.
o Yellowstone County will apply for the $100,000 grant.
· Discussion regarding GIS
o Addressing is done, but much more work needs to be done.
· COP Construction submitted a pay estimate to be included in this month's payables.
· Peg wished everyone a Happy Halloween.
