AMENDING SECTION 2.88.020 OF THE LAUREL MUNICIPAL CODE,
FOR DISASTER AND EMERGENCY SERVICES (CIVIL DEFENSE)
IN THE CITY OF LAUREL, MONTANA
IT IS HEREBY ORDAINED by the City Council of the City of Laurel, Montana,
that Section 2.88.020 of the Laurel Municipal Code is hereby amended to read as follows:
Section 2.88.020. Disaster and Eaner~encv Services (Civil Defense) in the City of
Laurel. Montana,
The Mayor of the City of Laurel and the Board of County Commissioners of Yellowstone
County shall, during periods of emergency mused by enemy attack or other disasters
affecting the City of Laurel, jointly direct and control the operations of the City-County
organization for Disaster & Emergency Services (DES) established in the Emergency
Operations Plan for Billings, Laurel, Broadview and Yellowstone County. The Mayor is
hereby authorized and directed to take, during such periods of emergency, such actions as
are reasonably necessary to prevent or minimize loss of life and property in cooperation
with said Board of County Commissioners and the DES Director of Yellowstone County.
The City of Laurel hereby accepts and appoints the Yellowstone County DES Director to
serve as Laurel's DES Director by virtue of his appointment by the Board of County
Commissioners of Yellowstone County. The duties and responsibilities of the Yellowstone
County DES Director are essentially the same for Laurel as they are for Yellowstone
County and are specified in Title 10, Chapter 3 of the Montana Codes Annotated. This
appointment is without any remuneration or compensation since the overall budget
authority rests with the Board of County Commissioners of Yellowstone County. The DES
Director will act as the Chief Advisor to the Executives of Yellowstone County and the
City of Laurel.
This ordinance shall become effective thirty (30) days after final passage by the
City Council and approval by the Mayor.
