O05-09 ORDINANCE AMENDING THE ZONING ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF LAUREL, MONTANA, TO ALLOW ADDITIONAL DWELLING UNITS IN RESIDENTIAL ZONES BY ADDING SECTION 17.08.035 TO THE LAUREL MUNICIPAL CODE AND AMENDING TABLE 17.16.010 OF THE CODE TO REFLECT SAME WHEREAS, in the intereat of providing a wider range of affordable housing than currently exists in Laurel and to allow for families to live with familiea in separate units within a residence; and WHEREAS, such zoning amendment is in compliance with the adopted Growth Management Plan; and WHEREAS, the Laurel-Yellowstone City-County Planning Board has prepared such amendment and recommends the adoption of such amendment to the City Council; and WHEREAS, the Laurel-Yellowstone City-County Planning Board conducted a duly advertised public hearing on June 2, 2005 at which no one commented pro or con; and WHEREAS, it is in the beat intereats of the residents of tho City of Laurel to adopt this ordinance for the continued uniform and orderly growth of the City; IT IS HEREBY ORDAINED by the City Council of the City of Laurol, Montana, that thc Laurel Municipal Code be amended to add Section 17.08.035, Additional Dwelling Unit as follows: "Additional Dwelling Unit (AZ}U)" means a separate dwelling unit within an existing residential dwelling unit that does not change the outward appearance of the existing residential dwelling unit but provides a separate living area for family or non-family members and which includes kitchen and bathroom facilities. The pr/mary residence must be owner occupied. Such ADU's may be rented or leased. Construction standards of ADU's must be approved by the City Public Works Office prior to construction and occupancy." FURTHERMORE, Table 17.16.010 is hereby ordained to reflect this change. This ordinance shall become effective thirty (30) days aftex final passage by the City Council and approved by the Mayor. Introduced and passed on first reading at a regular meeting of the City Council on September 6, 2005 by Aldexperson PASSED and ADOPTED by the Laurel City Council on second reading this ,2005, upon motion of Alderperson day of APPROVED BY THE MAYOR this day of ,2005.
