Vacancies -
• LuAnne contacted John Peterson and he plans to apply for the Tree Board,he will send a
letter to the Mayor
• No other people have been contacted
Aaron's meeting with Mike Garvey
• LuAnne, Mike and Aaron toured the parks on October 28th
• Mike was going to send a bid for replacing/replant trees in Thomson and Veterans Parks
as well as a design for trees in Elena subdivision and Murray Park. (see Aaron's email
attached)
• To date we have not received anything back from Mike. LuAnne will ask Aaron to
follow up.
Current trees
• Patrick Reidel has completed the work on trees throughout the city for a total of
$4,775.00. 25 trees were pruned and 3 stumps removed.
• 8th Ave—new construction of patio homes on the 800 block. Boulevard trees are dead,
and the new developer may or may not replace the trees. It would be nice to talk to the
developer to encourage them to help make 8th Ave maintain its look.

Good Afternoon,
By approval of the city of laurel (Matt Wheeler), members of the laurel tree board (Luanne Engh and Aaron
Christiansen) met with Mike Garvey of Garvey's Urban Forest to discuss tree planting sites and issues associated
with the loss of several memorial and Arbor day trees.
The intent is to have a professional in the tree-care Industry;
1) evaluate several previously planted trees,
2) advise the laurel tree board/city public works on proper site selection, tree selection, planting
methodology
3) consider work on four sites for a immediate work plan.
Further details should be discussed between Matt and Mike to clarify approved scope of work.
The tree board request to be informed on final decisions for requested work at the four sites.
Four sites were considered for planting fall of 2015/spring 2016. Mike will propose has plans ASAP to Matt
Wheeler to consider for possible planting before Veterans day Nov 11th 2015 depending on availability of
material and schedule.
Site 1) Thomson Park(1st Avenue North & East 6th Street).
Bid the replanting of the Oak tree planted for Arbor day 2015 The tree is incorrectly planted
and showing signs of stress. Replanting correctly give this tree a reasonable expectation of
improved health.
Site 2) Veterans Park(Colorado Avenue & East 1st Street)
1] Bid the planting of(2 of 6) 2" Prairie fire crab apple trees that have died since being
planted 2 years ago.
2] Bid the removal and replanting of a World War II Veterans memorial tree in concrete circle
Site 3) Elena subdivision commons area (east of Golf Course Rd)
1] Bid the planting of trees to visually improve turf area around the retention pond near Els
drive and Northwest Maryland In.
2] Bid the Planting of tree(s)to the commons area to buffer neighborhood property lines and
increase use of common area between Duval Dr. and Els Dr.

Site 4) Murray Heights Park(5th Avenue North & West 13th Street)
Submit proposal to plant 1-5 trees around the mid-park berm area,to provide spectator shade
and social gathering area outside the soccer/football playing surfaces at the park
Below is a small Bio on Mike Garvey, Garvey's Urban Forest, LLC
Mike Garvey is a Registered Consulting Arborist®with 26 years of field experience observing, planting, and
managing trees in the challenging environment of the northern plains and the Rocky Mountain range of Montana. He
has presented tree care workshops and speaking engagements for a wide variety of tree-minded audiences. And
his quest for finding historic trees led to the creation of the Parade of Trees bicycle tour in Billings, Montana.

urban trees.
