HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrdinance No. O97-04 ORDINANCE NO. 097- 4 ORDINANCE REGULATING POLITICAL OR CAMPAIGN SIGNS IT IS HEREBY ORDAINED by the City Council for the City of Laurel, Montana, that the LAUREL MUNICI?AL CODE is hereby amended to read as follows: Section 1: Chapter 15.36, SIGN CODE, shall be amended to add the following section: 15.36.030 POLITICAL OR CAMPAIGN SIGNS. Political or campaign signs on behalf of candidates for public office or measures on election ballots are subject to the following regulations: a. Such signs may be erected not earlier than forty-five (45) days prior to the primary or special election and shall be removed within fiiteen (15) days following the general or special election. If there is no primary election scheduled, then such signs may not be erected earlier that forty-five (45) days prior to the general election. After the primary election, signs pertaining to any candidate or ballot issue not on the general or special election ballot shall be removed within fifteen (15) days after the primary election,, unless the candidate is conducting a write-in campaign. b. In any area within the city limits, only four (4) stationary political sign are permitted on any one (1) parcel of land, Such sign may not exceed twenty-four (24) square feet in aggregate area, and if detached, shall not exceed three (3) feet in height. Such sign shall not be erected in such a manner as to constitute a roof sign. If there should be more that one (1) tenant, each tenant shall be permitted the above allowed dimensions. Notwithstanding the provisions of this subsection, a sign may be placed upon any legally existing sign structure, but not so as to cover on already existing current sign. c. No political sign shall be located within or over the public right-of-way or on a utility pole. d. No political sign shall be placed, installed, or erected without the permission of the private property owner. Section 2: This Ordinance shall become effective thirty (30) days after final passage by the City Council and approved by the Mayor. of Introduced and passed on first reading at a regular meeting of the City Council on July 1 , 1997, by Alderman lroll PASSED and ADOPTED by the Laurel City Council on second reading this __ , 1997, upon motion of Alderman day APPROVED BY THE MAYOR this day' of ,1997.
