ORDINANCE AMENDING THE LAUREL MUNICIPAL CODE
ADOPTING THE UNIFORM BUILDING CODE, 1997, AND
REPEALING SPECIFIC PROVISIONS OF THE CITY'S
CODE RELATING TO INSPECTIONS AND PERMITS
THAT ARE INCONSISTENT WITH THE
UNIFORM BUILDING CODES, 1997.
WHEREAS, the City of Laurel has in the past adopted the Uniform
Building Code (UBC) as its ordinance governing the standards for the
construction of specific structures within the city limits of Laurel; and,
WHEREAS, MCA§ 7-5-108 allows the adoption of this code by
reference; and
WHEREAS, there are currently portions of the LMC addressing the
matters of inspections, building permits, and enforcement of the UBC that need to
be repealed because the same matters are better and consistently addressed in the
Uniform Building Code, 1997 Edition;
NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY ORDA1NED by the City Council
for the City of Laurel, Montana, that the LAUREL MUNICIPAL CODE is hereby
amended to read as follows:
15.12.010 Adoption.
The Uniform Building Code, !97. 1997 Edition, copyrighted by the
International Conference of Building Officials, together with any appendix or
subsequent amendments or additions thereto, adopted or as may be adopted in the
future by the Montana State Building Code Bureau, as applicable to local
governments, is adopted by and declared to be the building code of the city for the
purpose of regulating the erection, construction, demolition, occupancy,
equipment, use, height, area, remodeling and maintenance of all buildings and
other structures within the municipality or within the city building inspector's
jurisdictional area as may hereafter be established and approved by the state of
Montana and adopted by the city.
One full printed copy of the code shall be ~.n .~!c available in the offices of
the city engineer. The aforesaid, Uniform Building Code is adopted by reference
and made a part of this chapter as fully, and for all intents and purposes, as though
set forth herein at length. It shall be known and designated as the "Uniform
Building Code" of the municipality.
15.12.020 Updated references.
The Building Code described in Section 15.12.010 is amended by the
additions, deletions and modifications set forth in the following sections o£ this
chapter.
Section 5:
This Ordinance shall become effective thirty (30) days after final
passage by the City Council and approved by the Mayor.
