TO: FROM: DATE: RE: ALL MMIA PROGRAM PARTICIPANTS ALAN W. HULSE, COO ~ Montana Municipal Insurance Authority February 4, 2005 SAFETY TRAINING R.M. BULLETIN 7-05 One of the requirements of the Montana Safety Culture Act, adopted by the State of Montana, is to have a system in place to educate employees on safety related topics. The act requires all employers to provide a safe workplace. One of the most cdtical elements in creating a safe workplace is educating employees on safety matters through formal safety training. The agency that is charged with enforcing the Montana Safety Culture Act is the Montana Department of Labor and Industry, Safety Bureau. As most of you are aware, this agency enforces the requirements of the Montana Safety Culture Act by conducting safety inspections of your operations. These safety inspections are usually followed by a Workplace Safety Order from the agency wherein hazardous conditions and unsafe workplace practices are noted and you are required to take action to correct the deficiencies. These inspections and orders are not always fun and in fact some have indicated that the process can be downright painful. What most of you may not realize is that the Safety Bureau utilizes the knowledge, talent and expertise of their safety personnel to provide safety training to employers in the State of Montana. These courses are free and cover safety topics that are critical for avery or,clanization. These courses are by far one of the best deals you'll find for creating a safety culture within your organization. While the MMIA can provide courses on many of the same topics to our members, the knowledge and expertise of the Safety Bureau employees provides a more detailed and thorough analysis of these topics and a better overall understanding of the safety issues facing the attendees. I am enclosing for your review and benefit a copy of the states catalog and registration instruction for these courses, I would encourage each member entity to give serious consideration to taking advantage of this training for the benefit of your employees and the overall health of your organization. This newsletter is published as a service to our members. The articles are not a substitute for the Memorandum of Liability Coverage or other coverage documents. All coverage determinations are made on a case-by-case basis, and can only be viewed on the unique facts of the claim presented.
