The Rail,Transit and Planning Division of the Montana Department of Transportation is requesting comments or any proposed modifications to the non-metropolitan local official participation process. In accordance with 23 CFR 450.210(b),non-metropolitan city and county officials are asked to participate in the statewide transportation planning process. MDT initially implemented the process in 2004 and continues to review and solicit comments every five years in regards to the effectiveness of the process;this was last done in 2010. The processes described in the attached document was proposed and approved by all 56 counties during MACO quarterly meetings in 2003. In addition to this letter, comments will also be solicited through the Newsline,MDT's quarterly newsletter;the biennial TranPlan 21 stakeholder survey;and at the annual STIP meetings with County Commissioners. MDT will continue to consider local official input through our documented process and alter the process as new opportunities arise. The document can be viewed at http://wtivw.mdt.mt.gov/pubinvolve/ .
