AN ORDINANCE PROHIBITING THE STORAGE,
CONSUMPTION, AND DISTRIBUTION OF ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES
IN OR ON CITY OWNED BUILDINGS AND PROPERTY USED AS CITY WORK
SITES
WHEREAS; it is the policy of the City of Laurel that all employees are prohibited from
the use, consumption, distribution, or unauthorized possession of controlled substances ( illegal
drugs ) or alcoholic beverages while on duty; to unlawfully manufacture, distribute, dispense,
possess, or use a controlled substance ( illegal drug) at the work site or in any Employer owned
vehicle, whether on duty or offduty; or reporting to work under the influence of illegal drags and
/or alcohol; and
WHEREAS, the City of Laurel wants to promote and maintain an alcohol free workplace.
IT IS HEREBY ORDAINED by the City Council for the City of Laurel, Montana, that
the LAUREL MUNICIPAL CODE is hereby amended to read as follows:
Section 1:
Chapter 2.96, PERSONNEL RULES AND REGULATIONS, shall be amended to
add the following section:
Section 2.96.280 Alcohol Free Workplace.
No individual shall store, consume, or distribute any alcoholic beverage in or on
any city owned building or property used as a city work site. This shall not prohibit any law
enforcement officer from taking and maintaining an alcoholic beverage which is evidence in any
law enforcement investigation. This shall also not prohibit the City from allowing the storage,
consumption, or distribution of any alcoholic beverage by the public in any City park or building
being leased to a non-city, third party.
Section 2
This Ordinance shall b~eome effectiVe thirty 00) days after final passage by the
City Council and approved by the Mayor.
