5:00 P.M.at City Hall
MEMBERS PRESENT: Tom Nelson, Chairman Chuck Rodgers
Lee Bamdt Mark Mace
Wally Hall Ken Olson
OTHERS PRESENT: Cathy Gabrian Kurt Markegard
The meeting was called to order by Chairman,Tom Nelson. There was no public in attendance.
Staff report on sprinkler system: The sprinkler system is up and running. We have six heads and this is all we
can run at one time. Each head will cover a radius of 150' with the pump running at 90 PSI. We have two spots
where we can attach a garden hose to water seed on new graves. Due to the water pressure,we will have to wrap
the trees in tin or plastic to prevent the sprinklers from peeling the bark off. The city purchased a trailer and the
mechanic is welding a frame to hold the sprinkler heads. They will be picked up each night and stored on the
trailer to prevent damage and theft.
We received a bid from Becker Electric for the VFD and were able to get it for$7,000.00,which is substantially
less than previous bids from other companies. The Budget Finance Committee approved an additional$3,000.00
for the remote switch to turn the system on and off from the cemetery shop.
The pipe bursting was too shallow in some areas so it was reburied to a depth of 19 inches.
Extension of culvert from National Veteran's Cemetery: We have put$9,000.00 in the budget for this and
hope to coordinate with the county this fall. We have hauled some dirt to start filling in the coulees.
When the north sections are opened,Kurt would like two graves left vacant on the ends of each row for the
mowers to turn. The depth of the north sections is 152 feet and the sprinkler was set at 151 feet.
Nuisance tree removal& marking of baby graves: One tree has been removed and the trees in the cemetery
were trimmed. One tree still needs to be removed and will be done in the new fiscal year.
The ditch on the west side of Section H has been filled and this section can be opened.
Kurt will irrigate Section A next week and have the crew set out the baby headstones. Volunteer and committee
members are willing to dig and set the baby headstones. They will try to do it on Wednesday.
Discussion on Cemetery Improvement Proposal Handout: This handout was originally presented on January
16, 2014. Tom reviewed the Recommendations sheet. There was discussion about Section A, install and gravel a
road in the Catholic Section, going out for a bond issue to fix roads and curb and gutters. Tom will update the
Recommendations sheet.
Other:
There was discussion about ways to mark the sections.
Tom thanked Ken Olson for volunteering to serve on the Cemetery Commission.
The meeting adjourned at 6:30 p.m.
Respectfully Submitted,
