HomeMy WebLinkAboutChamber of Commerce (16) Laurel Chamber of Commerce Board Meeting Minutes The meeting was held on May 14th, 2015 at the Log Cabin. In attendance were: Executive Board Members: President—Christy Williams, Treasurer—Molly Conrad, Directors:Annie Seaman, Monna Rae Adickes, &Holly Anderson; members: Howard Rickard, Mary Lou Batalden,AnnMarie Barton and guest, Robert Howell, representative for"Little Britches Rodeo."Gail Melcher was present as a short term assistant. President Christy Williams called the meeting to order with a moment of silence. The minutes were passed out but not read. A quorum was not present. Old BUSINESS Seasonal Assistant—Gail Melcher was introduced as filling in for summer hire, Michelle Maida, who will arrive within the next week. The executive secretary is recovering from Knee surgery and is anxious to return to work. Molly Conrad informed those present that due to 8th Street being closed for major repairs, the parade route would have to be changed. Parade entrants will line up on Alder. The parade theme for the 2015 4th of July is "Celebrating Laurel's Youth, the Future of America." The Chief Joseph Run will begin from Thompson Park. Volunteers are needed for cleanup of the park on the morning of July 5th. It was suggested to call Judge Kerr as she may have individuals needing to perform"community service hours. This would require adult supervision. Home based business after hours will be at the Log Cabin on Thursday May 21'at 7:00 pm. New BUSINESS Don Worner, a director called the Chamber to ask to be released from his obligation. Howard Rickard and Annie Seaman of the Laurel Jaycees informed the Chamber that they will be coordinating a"Non'profit" fair for all the organizations from the surrounding Laurel area. The fair will be held at the LMS. No date was set. Howard also spoke of"Leadership"talks given by successful business people. These events are at the Laurel Jaycee Hall. The dates are posted on Facebook and are open to the public. Mary Lou Batalden, an Avon representative, informed the group that she is holding craft fairs in the park. AnnMarie Barton and her husband, Thomas are the owners of Redneck Pizza in Laurel. AnnMarie was present to ask the Chamber about a ribbon cutting ceremony and a newspaper article for their Grand Opening event which will be May 30th A guest, Robert Howell, representing the"The Little Britches Rodeo" came to the Chamber meeting to inform those present about the newly formed chapter in the Laurel area for ages 5-18. They use the Horse Palace(East of Laurel) and will have 6 days of events: June 6-7; June 20-21; and July 4-5. The rodeo is open to the public with no spectator admission fee. Start time is 9am. Robert Howell was invited to participate in the 4th of July parade and given information for joining the Chamber. Robert is seeking sponsorship for the rodeo. A meeting needs to be scheduled for the 4th of July committee. Molly will check with Marcia for a list as to what needs to be done for the July 4th preparations time line. There is a need for a Chamber membership drive as Amanda Frye has moved from Laurel, Monna Rae Adickes has taken a job in Billings, Don Worner, again no longer wants to be a Director and Tom (Laurel Outlook) is moving out of state. It was suggested that all members be contacted. Other suggestions were Facebook and the Chamber Newsletter.
