The conference will be held at the Outlaw Inn (1-800-3254000), which has agreed to provide rooms for $35 per day. There are also some conference rate rooms reserved at Cavanaugh's (same 1-800-325- 4000) and the Aero Inn (1-800-843-6114). Be sure to tell them you are attending the League conference. The business agenda will feature addresses by gubernatorial candidates Bob Brown and Brian Schweitzer. It will also include special presentations on public power, municipal health insurance, investment strategy, community and economic development, land use regulation, personnel issues and a broad range of other subjects of current and topical interest. Special programs are scheduled for clerks, treasurers and finance officers, public works directors and city attorneys. The social program will offer an old-fashioned barn dance and an appearance by noted Montana entertainers Rob Quist and Jack Gladstone. The Legislature is coming in January, and delegates will consider a platform of resolutions and position statements that cities and towns will stand on next winter in Helena. The election of officers will be particularly important this year, because there will be two vice presidencies open for nomination and election. The host city has done a terrific job, working with the League staff, to arrange an informative and entertaining conference. Kalispell Mayor Para Kennedy, members of the council and the professional staff invite their friends and associates in city government across Montana to come to join them this fall in the beautiful Flathead Valley.
