The committee received a written offer from Blue Cross/Blue Shield. The offer includes an increase in
the co-pay from $20 per visit to $25 and an increase in prescription medication to $10/$20/$40 with no
deductible. The monthly payment amount will stay the same, which is right at the $1,100 cap.
Motion by Guy Rolison, second by Bud Arnold, to recommend that the City Council accept the
written proposal (see attached) from Blue Cross/Blue Shield. Motion carried by a 4-0 vote. (Mike
Nieskens voted via phone).
Mary will put this on the Council Workshop Agenda.
Mary showed the committee the information she has received regarding the self-supported health
insurance through MMIA. Approximately 41 cities participate in this insurance. Mary has been in
contact with MMIA regarding our interest in their policy. MMIA has placed us in "Table 6" on their
rate chart. The family rate in Table 6 is already above the $1,100 cap, and it does not offer dental or
vision.
Cheryll will make copies of the current MMIA BC/BS Benefit Plan Options manual and give it to the
committee members and the union. Mary will pass along any new information she gets concerning the
MMIA insurance.
The next meeting of the Insurance Committee will be in September. We will have quarterly meetings
beginning with the September meeting.
Mark Mace suggested that the committee members contact their state legislators in regards to lowering
insurance rates for the MMIA plan.
Motion to adjourn by Bud Arnold, second by Guy Rolison. Motion carried.
The meeting was adjourned at 5:30 pm.
