Minutes
March 2015 minutes were presented. Bruce motioned to approve the minutes as read, Rose Marie
seconded the motion. Motion passed.
Correspondence
Alan Klebe turned in a letter resigning his position from the Library Board of Trustees. He cited
continuing health concerns as his reason for resigning. Even though Alan only has a year left on this
term he felt that his health prevented him from attending the meetings on a regular basis. An ad will be
placed to find a new Board member.
Nancy received a letter from the Internal Revenue Service stating that the Laurel Public Library
Foundation has been approved for tax exempt status. Our next move is to look for grants/donations to
proceed with adding on to the library.
Circulation Report—compared to same time period last year...
Traffic: down 8.03%; circulation: all items circulated totaled 2,985 (including 221 eBooks), book
circulation was down 11.5%, media circulation was up 11.39%, eBook checkouts for this month was
8.4%of total book circulation; computers: internet use was down 20.46%, children's use was down
3.33%,wi-fi use up 28.52%; patron cards: city patrons accounted for 64.8%of registered users, county
was 23.89%of registered users and out-of-county accounted for 10.12%. There were 73 recorded
technology assists for March.
Old Business
The tentative approval of the budget will include a$0.50 per hour raise for employees, increase in
longevity and designated flex monies for each employee. The new budget should take affect July pt.
The Federation meeting was held in Joliet on March 21, 2015 at the Joliet Public Library. The meeting
was attended by Clair Killebrew and Nancy Schmidt. They both attended the afternoon presentations for
directors and trustees. The next Federation meeting is being held September 26, 2015 in Forsyth.
Nancy attended the annual Montana Library Conference in Bozeman,April 7th, 8th, & 9th. The
conference was interesting but seemed to be directed more toward school librarians rather than public
librarians.Nancy attended workshops on the Montana Shared Catalog: Add-ons and Circulation, grant
writing basics, library foundation information therapy dogs in libraries,public library statistics, getting
bib records into WorldCat, entrepreneur help at the library, and Homework,MT resources.
The Laurel Federated Women in Business held their annual Easter Egg Hunt and play at the library on
Wednesday, April 1St at 1:00 p.m. The group had been asked to keep the play at 15 minutes in length
because year was 30 minutes and parents started to leave before the egg hunt. Attendance this year was
56. We had 32 children and 24 adults attend.
The book sale was scheduled for April 21St—24th: 9:00 am to 7:00 pm and April 25th: 9:00 am to 3:00
pm. Volunteers are needed to work the sale so staff doesn't have to work.
New Business
Nancy will be attending the spring Montana Shared Catalog membership meeting in Helena on May 7th
and 8th. She will give a report at the May Board meeting on her attendance.
Judy has put together a lot of the history items that have been lying around the library and created a new
"History Wall" in the community room. She will be available to help visitors/patrons with area research
or family history.
