Dave Allan, of Western States Insurance Agency, began by giving a presentation
regarding our renewal with Blue Cross Blue Shield. Dave is a representative for BCBS.
He gave facts and figures over the past year. He stated our tentative rate increase
beginning August 1, 2004 would be 5.8%.
Mary Embleton talked about the Montana League of Cities and Towns insurance
program. Unfortunately, there still is some work that needs to be completed and the
plan will not be ready until October, 2004 and maybe not until after the first of the year.
Due to this not being ready, the Montana League of Cities and Towns advised each
member city to renew with their present insurance company so not to be a lapse in
coverage for the cities employees.
The group discussed hidng Mick DiFronzo, of DiFronzo and Company, to be a
negotiator/consultant. In particular, the insurance committee would like to see our
renewal be lower without losing any of our present benefits.
It was suggested that the Union pay half of DiFronzo's total bill and the City the other
half. The Union has a meeting on Wednesday, June 1~. Guy Rolison will take this
suggestion to the Union and report back to the Insurance Committee at their next
meeting, June 8t~ at 5:00 PM.
There being no further business the meeting adjourned at 4:00 PM.
