Subject: NEW INTERN'ET FILTER - GAMES
In accordance with the Internet Filtering policy, the Information Teclmology Services Division is
implementing a new Interact filter category called "Games". This filter will block use of games
that are accessed ,da the lntemet. This filter will be put into place beginning on March 15, 2004.
ITSD has been accumulafmg statistics on the use of game sites accessed via the state's Interact
conuection. As a result, ITSD is adding this as a new filter category in conjunction with the
State's policy on lmtemet filtering. The primary reason for this filter request is a significant,
recurring use of a state resource for non-state business related activities. The level of this use is in
violation of State policy, primarily the User Responsibility, SummitNet Acceptable Use and
Interact Acceptable Use enterprise IT policies. Attempted access to this category of sites in
excess of 50 attempts in a single month will result in a letter to the head of the agency beginning
with the March reports.
