RE: Interim Letter Report
Indoor Air Quality Inspection
Laurel City Court Building
Laurel, Montana
Northern Industrial Hvaiene Proiect No. 999-236
Dear Mr. Johnson:
At your request, Northem Industrial Hygiene, Inc. (Northern) performed an indoor air
quality (mold) inspection at the Laurel City Court Building at Laurel, Montana. Field work
for this project was performed on October 31, 2003. The inspection was performed to
determine the quantity, types and extent of mold contamination that is suspected to be
present in this building.
On the same day of the inspection of the building, samples consisting of bioaerosol, bulk,
carpet dust and surface materials taken at the building were submitted to Aerotech
Laboratories, Inc. for laboratory analysis for the presence of mold.
During the inspection of the building, the following observations were noted:
· There are multiple wall and ceiling cracks in most portions of the building
suspected to be caused by building and/or soils movements.
· Moisture staining and visible molds were observed on wood members in the
basement boiler room and on above-ceiling surfaces on the undemide of roof
structures.
· Evidence of past roof failures were noted from water stains on roof framing
members and wall plaster surfaces.
· There is an absence of positive air ventilation in this bUilding.
· No visible molds were observed on any surfaces in the occupied areas of the
building.
Based on our preliminary observations, it is Northern's opinion that a mold remediation

plan addressing both immediate as well as long term conditions can be formulated that
will remedy mold related conditions existing in this building.
Upon receipt of reports of mold samples submitted to the laboratory, Northern will prepare
a final report detailing laboratory findings and remediation recommendations to address
the findings of the investigation.
We appreciate this opportunity to assist you in this work. Please call if you need any
additional assistance with this project.
