HomeMy WebLinkAboutLibrary Board Minutes 02.10.2015 Minutes of the Laurel Public Library Board of Trustees February 10, 2015 Attending Bruce McCullough Clair Killebrew Rose Marie Kline Dixie Feller Nancy Schmidt Minutes December 2014 and January 2015 minutes were presented. Rose Marie motioned to approve the minutes as read, Dixie seconded the motion. Motion passed. Correspondence We received two donations—Mike Dewey donated $100 to cover the cost of the Wall Street Journal and the Laurel Federated Women's Group donated $20. Circulation Report—compared to same time period last year... Traffic: down 1.76%; circulation: all items circulated totaled 2,976 (including 208 eBooks), book circulation was down 8.71%, media circulation was down 14.44%, eBook checkouts for this month was 7.81%of total book circulation; computers: internet use was up 3.8%,children's use was down 46.8%, wi-fi use up 27.66%; patron cards: city patrons accounted for 63.18%of registered users, county was 27.9%of registered users and out-of-county accounted for 8.1%. There were 60 recorded technology assists for January. Old Business Tammy Bellinger has come to work at the library under the Experience Works program. She will be scheduled for a minimum of 20 hours per week with an increase in hours as the EW budget allows. Tammy has been placed at the library until she finds permanent employment elsewhere or completes a four year term. The request for use of the community room by Robert Carr is working out well. He has a group that meets for bible study meetings. No offering is taken and all meetings are open to the public. The group will start meeting on Fridays in March. New Business The furnace on the north side of the library has stopped working and needs to be replaced immediately. Nancy received a quote from Seder's Heating& Cooling in the amount of$2,400, removal and installation. The furnace will be replaced as soon as possible. Nancy has the budget sheets and asked for input from Board members. Rose Marie said she would help with the final budget numbers on Thursday, February 26 at 2:00 pm. The budget needs to be turned in by March 2, 2015 to Shirley. Dr. Ed Madrid will be offering Health Information presentations at the library on Tuesday evening in March and April for 7 weeks. The presentations run from 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm on each of those dates. These will be open to the public, free of charge. Because these will be on Tuesdays Nancy asked the Board if they wanted to cancel the next two meetings or move them to a different date. Dixie motioned that we change the time of the meetings from 6:00 pm to 5:30 pm on March 10th and April 14th. Rose Marie seconded the motion, motion passed. HRDC has asked that we accept a worker through the Work Employment program. The people placed with us in the past haven't worked out very well but library staff is willing to try again. If problems arise, the participant will be terminated from the library and moved to another location. Other Looking ahead: March—Federation meeting—March 21St @ Joliet Public Library 9 - 3 April—MLA& next book sale—April 8-11 in Bozeman& last week in April (possibly) May—MSC meeting—May 7th& 8th in Helena Addressing the Board Next regular meeting March 10, 2015 Dixie motioned that the Board meeting be closed, Rose Marie seconded the motion.
