Dear Mayor and City Council Members:
How would you ever fulfill the responsibilities of your office without the
competent help of your municipal clerk, treasurer or finance officer? The better they do
their jobs, the more effectively you can do yours. Right? Well, to help assure that you are
getting the professional help you need, once again the Local Government Center is '
hosting the Montana Institute for Municipal Clerks, Treasurem and Finance Officers in an
effort to keep them abreast of new and more effective methods of meeting their
responsibilities. The Institute will be conducted in Billings from May 4 - 9, 2003.
Tkis continuing education program, which was initiated in 1981, provides a
curriculum focused on the administrative, leadership and technical skills needed by
municipal clerks, treasurers and f'mance officers. The Institute is certified by the
International Institute of Municipal Clerks (ii/ViC), and the Association of Public
Treasurers of the U.S. and Canada (APT). Local government units benefit from this
professional development because the program content is specifically designed to meet
day to day requirements of the clerk's and treasurer's offices.
We ask that you support your clerks' and treasurers' participation in the Institute,
and that you will urge them to attend. When they complete the demanding certification
requirements, we hope you will recognize their achievement. As a bonus, a mayor or
municipal council member may attend any full day of the Institute at no charge as the
guest ora registered Institute participant from that city or town. Mayors and council
members are also encouraged to register for the Elected Officials Workshop which will
be held May 7th - 9th at the Holiday Inn-Grand in Billings.
