The structure that supports the steps has deteriorated to the point that it needs to be disassembled and rebuilt in a manner engineered to support the original blocks of granite. Currently, as a result of a power washing given the steps during the restoration of the building's exterior, the front steps of the Montana "People's House" have been put offlimits for reasons of safety. The Capitol Steps CTEP project is designed to allow the addition of CTEP fund contributions from other local governments across the great state of Montana. We are now asldng your municipality to consider donating a portion of your allocated CTEP funds to this project. Please remember the following important factors as you decide whether to commit some of your CTEP dollars to the Capitol Steps Project: 1) The matching funds for this project will be derived from other sources, not from the contribuhng communities. 2) Your community will not have to enter into a maintenance agreement for the Capitol steps. 3) The project application and other requirements will not be the responsibility of your community. Arlyne Reichert Great Falls Penelope Voisen Whitefish Pat Williams Missoula You may allocate CTEP funds to the Capitol Steps Project by sending a letter indicating the amount of funds your community is willing to contribute, to Tom Martin, Montana Department of Transportation Planning Division, Attention CTEP Bureau, P.
