RE: Groundwater and Salinity Management Feasibility Analysis

CITY OF LAUREL
Dear Bud:
The Department of Natural Resources and Conservation (DNRC) has recently completed the
review and ranking process for applications for Renewable Resource Grants funding. The
Director of DNRC and the Governor have approved our recommendations for project ranking
and funding. The enclosed ranking list identifies the Department's priority recommendations
that were submitted to and approved by the Governor. These recommendations will be
presented to the 2003 Legislature. Every applicant, regardless of project ranking, will have the
opportunity to appear before the Long Range Planning Committee.
In late December or early January, I will notify you of the times and dates of the legislative
committee hearings relevant to your project. At this time, I will also send you a final copy of the
Department's evaluation of your application. This review will detail the comments and concerns
expressed by the project reviewers and the ranking committee based on the ranking criteria.
There were 73 applications for the funding in the 2004-2005 biennium. Approximately $3.8
million in Renewable Resource grant funds is available for projects this biennium. This means
that roughly the first 39 projects will be funded. Projects 40 - 62 would not receive funding
unless the Legislature chooses to prioritize projects differently or different project funding
amounts. The last section of the ranking list contains eleven projects that were not
recommended for funding.
If you have questions about your project's ranking or the funding recommendation, I would be
happy to discuss it with you. Please do not hesitate to contact me at (406) 444-6839 or email at
pamsmithastate.mt. us.
Sincerely,
Pam Smith
