DEPARTMENT HEAD MEETING
SEPTEMBER 17, 2002 3:00 P.M.

OSHA Hazard Communication Standard draft and lists of ehemJeal~ · Department heads submitted lists of chemicals used in departments.
· Fire department and court still need to submit lists.
· Cleaning service will supply MSDS sheets for the chemicals used.
· MSDS sheets needed for any chemical.
· If in doubt, put it on the list.
Supervision classes with Dick Larsen
Mary Guy, Jan Faught, Mary Embleton, Matt Erekson, Steve Klotz, Mike Nieskens will
attend.
· Six consecutive Wednesday mornings - 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. - beginning September 25t~
and ending October 30th
· Held in Yellowstone Room, underneath grandstands, at MettaPark
· One session held at the courthouse conference room - during the NILE
Discussion regarding council work plan priorities
· Council identified priorities:
o Enterprise fund rates
o Street maintenance fund
o Park maintenance fund
· Park maintenance fund would affect the General Fund - dollars specifically allocated to
parks
· Work plan focuses on priorities; priorities focus on Public Works
· Maintenance type budget this year; council wants to set different direction for future
· Wastewater Facility Plan public hearing tonight
· Water Facility Plan to be started next
· Need to project rate increases prior to the plan
· Firm costs from engineer for intake project needed to determine if sufficient monies
available for project - WRDA Grant and SRF money
· Automated read system will not be started until intake is determined.
· By the time ice gets here, the dam will be completed and the necessary equipment will be
on site.

Update on job descriptions to employees
· Rick will present job descriptions to his staff at their meeting next week.
· Get employee signature and date that job description was received, read and understood
after job description review is complete

· Larry's rate presentation at council workshop on September 24th - very preliminary to lay
ground work
· Mary received cai1 from Department of Revenue this morning; will provide written
response by end of week; report to council will be scheduled after report is received
· Reminder of deadline to submit information for Laurel City Voice
· Information needed for Laurel City Voice includes:
(> Pictures and story of heritage corridor
o SRO vehicle donation
o Chip seal project
o Rick to academy training
o Library
o Intake
o CIP
· Question regarding status of school zone
o Second reading at tonight's council meeting
o Suspicion that ordinance as proposed would fail
o Council may choose to take broader approach to school zone issue - school
transportation issue and signs
o Interest in being consistent
o Take time to consider all the ramifications
· Water intake
c> Working on temporary water contract - HKM and Cop Construction
o Intakes are being cleaned
o City on temporary water within month
· Peg has training opportunities - one on Saturday and one in October
· Police Department
o Federal Equitable Sharing Agreement - federal money seized through drug
forfeiture, charged to a federal court
o HIDTA Grant- coming soon
· Matt has information for pre-council regarding zone change for storage buildings
