A Council Workshop was held in the Council Chambers and called to order by Mayor Bud Johnson at
7:00 p.m. on May 14, 2002.

COUNCIL WORKSHOP AGENDA:
1. Rick Musson: HIDTA (High Intensity Drug Trafficking Areas) Grant · Next step is Memorandum of Understanding from task force meeting
· DEA - Barry Lucero - Agem in Charge
· Montana has few resources to address "meth' labs
· State gets $1,000,000 per year to divide
· Already 4 cases in Laurel
· We became part of task force which provides resources; Feds take 20%; Task Force
has 25 agents
2. Video arraignment presentation · Brian Hamilton - Industrial Communications - electronics
· Video arraignment: Decreased manpower and increased safety
· Transported 78 prisoners to Laurel City Court in 2000; Man-hour cost was $4,533
· Transported 66 prisoners to Laurel City Court in 2001; Man-hour cost was $3,777
· Patrol vehicles: 32 miles round trip from city court to the county jail; save expense of
gas, tires, etc.
3. Discussion of entryway zoning
· planning Board recommendation
· City-County planning Board public hearing scheduled for June 6
· Covers 300 feet both sides of interstate and north/south roads
4. Discussion of sign code · Public Works Department presentation
· Some of the present code is not enforceable
· Public hearing on July 16, 2002
· Covers inside City of Laurel
5. Discussion regarding council notebooks, packets, correspondence; when and how to distribute · Complete packet distributed before council meeting
· Notebooks will not be filled and used during council meetings
· Inform Dan Mears, Dan Dart, and John Oakes - not at this meeting
