HomeMy WebLinkAboutCouncil Workshop Minutes 07.23.2002 COUNCIL WORKSHOP A Council Workshop was held in the Council Chambers and called to order by Mayor Bud Johnson at 7:00 p.m. on July 23, 2002. X Lauren Van R. oekel Doug Poehls X Ken Olson X Mark Mace X Gay Easton Daniel Dart _X_ Dan Meats X $ohn Oakes OTHERS PRESENT: Matt Erekson COUNCIL WORKSHOP AGENDA: Internet Policy: Held over until the next meeting Three proposals for ehnno~in~ agenda deadline The timing of the proposed agenda deadline was diagrammed on the chalkboard. Discussion of the aspects of how to schedule the deadline in a month with five Tuesdays indicated that the council favored skipping the fourth Tuesday and scheduling the deadline at 9:00 a.m. of the Wednesday preceding the council meeting. A_&gg_q_d a discussion Bud asked if there were any questions on the wage and job classifications. Dan Meats asked about two positions not listed in the matrix. Some discussion about the study clarified the issue, with the mayor indicating the council is the policy-setting body and passing the wage and job classification gives a policy to the administration to classix~y and pay employees. Discussion about the sign code indicated the council would like more time for public input. The motion sequence to delay the vote was discussed. Discussion about the entryway zone produced questions about the area covered. Cai Cumin will be asked to clari~y the issue for the council. The sign code and entryway zone will be distributed to the Chamber of'Commerce to promote input and discussion. 6th . . . Passing the budget on August vail reqmre a morion to waive the public heating rule that requires the decision to be made at the next meeting after the public hearing is closed. Council Workshop n~nutes of July 23, 2002 Announcements The workshop to develop a council work plan is scheduled for Saturday, August 3rd. Department heads are invited. The session will begin with breakfast at 8:00 a.m. at the Fire Hall. The Laurel City Voice should be in the July 24th issue of the Laurel Outlook.
