Dear Mayor Johnson:
I am contacting you to voice our strong opposition to the new City of Laurel
Municipal Sign Code and the Community Entryway Zoning District ordinances
presently under city council review.
Our city does not need this type of extreme regulation. Let's rely on existing
codes and regulations that have served to date.
In review of the ordinance, I find of particular concern the size of the area to
be affected under the proposed zoning district, requirement of all sign
lighting to he turned off at midnight, and landscaping/buffer yard requirements.
I am greatly concerned the ordinances will ultimately be open to interpretation
after passage. Furthermore, enforcement and penalties are not specified in
either ordinance.
Ultimately, regulation of this nature does more harm than good. Please vote
against these ordinances.
