S&otlijzht on Business - Ricci's Thriftwuy
In 1989, Vince and Debbie Ricci and their three
sons moved to Laurel and opened the Laurel
Ricci's Thriftway Store. At that time, Laurel
was in great need of a second grocery store.
Safeway's had just closed their doors. When the
Ricci's came to Laurel they not only brought
with them, the know-how to run a grocery store,
but also brought a sense of community
involvement.
Vince learned the grocery store business in
Livingston from his parents. Vince and his five
siblings, his parents, his wife and three sons
have been in the grocery business since the
opening of the Livingston store in 1978. Vince's
brother now runs the original family store in
Livingston with his father as the bookkeeper and
his mother helping out. This brother, his wife,
and their three children are the main operators of
Ricci's Thriftway in Livingston. Another
brother operates Ricci's Convenience Store in
Livingston, also. His wife and their three
children also are instrumental in the operation of
this other grocery store in Livingston.
While not working in the Laurel Ricci's
Thriftway store, Vince is a Laurel Volunteer
Fireman and has served on the Laurel Chamber
of Commerce Board of Directors in the past.
Debbie also served on the Laurel Chamber of
Commerce Board of Directors, Laurel Museum,
Inc. Board of Directors, Laurel Women In
Business, Laurel Downtown Planning
Committee, and Laurel Revitalization League.
Along with Don Smarsb from Dynamic Designs,
Debbie was instrumental in getting the
Chamber's Laurel Chief Joseph Run going five
years ago.
Together, Vince and Debbie sponsor Little
League baseball teams, sponsor ads in the Laurel
High School yearbook and newspaper, sponsor
Chamber events, as well as many other
organizational events, and have been one of the
big contributors in the annual food drive put on
by the Laurel Middle School.
The store employs more than 25 people in
Laurel. The Ricci's make sure that their
employees are paid well and receive good
benefits.
Ricci's Thriftway offers a bakery department,
meat and produce departments, and order in
special items when there is a need by one of their
customers.

Spotlight on Business-Hill's Screen Printing
Hill's Screen Printing is located at 405 East Main and
has been there for the past two years. Owner, Julie
Roma Brownlee stored that the business moved here
when she purchased it. Before that time, the business
had been located in Billings for the past twenty-five
years. Three employees now work at the business.
Hills' Screen Printing specializes in all types of silk
screen printing and embroidery work for shirts,
jackets, etc. They also provide the creation of decals,
bumper stickers, magnetic signs, and vinyl lettering
for signs and banners. The business will work with
businesses and organizations to create jackets and
shirts with the company or organization's logo.
Besides being a great Laurel business, Hill's Screen
Printing is very serious about getting involved with the
community. They sponsor youth and school sports
teams and are a current member of the Laurel
Chamber of Commerce. Julie is the daughter of Jack
Roma, former Laurel Postmaster and the sister of
Monte Roma, owner of Expert Lube & Wash. Both
Jack and Monte have been very involved in helping
the Laurel community and have, it seems, passed their
community-minded traits onto Julie.
For more information about the business or the
products offered, contact Hill's Screen Printing, 405
East Main, 628-8511 - phone, 628-8521 - fax.

Laurel Herbstfest
Is there an interest in getting the Laurel Herbstfest
going again? If there is an interest, would the
Herbstfest work better if it were held indoors or
outdoors (under a large tent)? Would the Herbstfest
work better if held the second weekend in September
rather than the fourth weekend? Are there enough
organizations that would be willing to work with the
Chamber in order to get things going? Would the
Herbstfest celebration work better if kept to a smaller
scale, local polka bands, and offered lower rates for
booth spots as well as lower rates for admissions? The
Chamber has been kicking around the idea of getting
the Herbstfest going again, but does not want to step
on anyone's toes. If there were an interest to do this,
the Chamber would like to use the event to raise funds
as well as offer the other organizations in laurel to use
this as a fundraiser also. The Herbstfest was a great
way to boost the economy of Laurel in the past and
would again bring dollars to the businesses of Laurel
during a somewhat slower season. If you have any
continents on this, please call the Chamber at 628-
8105 or write your comments to: Laurel Chamber of
Commerce, P.O. Box 395, Laurel, MT 59044.
Laurel Man/Brochure
The Laurel Chamber of Commerce is again getting
ready to reprint the Laurel map and brochure.
Advertisement spaces are sold for $100.00 per ad spot
in order to pay for the printing of the 5,000 maps.
These 5,000 maps usually last for one year before
having to be reprinted Maps are on hand in the
Laurel Visitor Center, Laurel Airport, Billings Airport,
Billings Chamber of Commerce, other Montana
Chambers of Commerce and are pm into all
relocation, visitor and convention packets. If you
would like to reserve an advertisement spot for your
business or organization, call the Chamber.
