OLD COUNCIL CHAMBERS MEMBERS PRESENT: Chairman Mark Mace Bud Johnson Ken Olson Les Deines Bud Arnold Mike Ludwig OTHERS PRESENT: Mary Embleton Mark called the meeting to order at 5:07 p.m. He stated to the committee that the budget impact for choosing the Blue Select plan would be an additional $165,000. The department heads have been asked to cut their budgets as much as possible, but the city cannot continue to absorb 41% increases in the health insurance premiums. He felt that the city will have to go with the Blue Select plan for now, but the increased cost is not budgeted at this time. He also stated that the city will go shopping, but that the committee needs to determine how the city will do this, and suggested that rather than contacting several companies and their agents, that the city contact a broker. Ken agreed and stated that a broker has access to many different companies and can give an objective analysis of the pros and cons of each company's proposal. Discussion followed, during which the union representatives agreed with the use of a broker, and even suggested using 3 or 4. Bud Johnson agreed with the concept of using more than just one representative to bring proposals to the city. Motion by Ken, seconded by Bud I. that the city renew their health insurance policy with BC/BS Blue Select plan for August. The motion carded unanimously. Mary will contact a broker for names of several brokers, and will provide them the necessary information to shop for the city's health insurance. An Insurance Committee will then be set up for their presentations, sometime after August 6th. The meeting adjourned at 5:35 p.m. Respectfully submitted, Mary K. !Embleton Clerk/Treasurer
