The council discussion was moved from the council meeting to this meeting.
Mayor Johnson asked the council to suggest groups and individuals to lead the pledge of
allegiance during the council meetings.
Doug Poehls mentioned that a professional bicycle stunt show is scheduled during the 4th
of July activities. A tentative schedule for the 4th of July activities was distributed to the
council.
Doug stated that the City-County Planning Board is in the process of reviewing the
entryway zoning. A public heating is scheduled for the June 6, 2002 Planning Board
meeting.
Mark Mace suggested the need to develop task force areas within the community to
address issues such as community watches, sidewalks, and light districts.
Ken Olson asked for input regarding the council workshops. The council discussed the
issue and agreed that the meetings were a positive step that needed to continue.
Larry Tanglen, of the Laurel Outlook, asked to address the council. Audience members
are not normally allowed to speak at the Committee of the Whole meetings. After
receiving permission to address the council, Larry stated his views regarding the State
Open Meeting Law.
Matt Erekson spoke with the League of Cities and Towns regarding this issue. Information
is presented but no action is taken at the work sessions, and no decisions are made. The
League said that complete minutes of the meetings were not necessary, and a record of the
Cit~ Council Committee of the Whole minutes of May 7, 2002
agenda items meets the legal requirements for the minutes of the meeting. The meetings
are noticed and open to the public, and the press is always welcome at the meetings.
Lauren Van Roekel mentioned some concerns voiced by constituents regarding streets,
fence issues, and dog complaints.
The meeting adjourned at 6:55 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Cindy Allen
Council Secretary
