I am pleased to present the first State of Montana Strategic Plan for Information Technology. This
Plan is the direct result of the Montana Information Technology Act (Senate Bill 131), which became
effective July 1, 2001. A critical component of the Act was the recognition by the Legislature and
Governor of the need for a single vision for information technology in state government. The Act also
provides for the development of a strategic plan for information technology in state government, The
enclosed document represents both the vision and strategic plan for our state.
The theme of this Plan is "Moving Forward Together." It represents the culmination of several
months of hard work, collaboration, and planning by the members of the Information Technology
Board (created by the Information Technology Act), the Information Technology Managers Council,
IT professionals within state government and the private sector. We believe this Plan establishes the
foundation for well-managed deployment and use of information technology in state government and
when viewed in concert with individual agency IT plans, this plan sets a clear direction for future
efforts.
We hope you will take the time to review this document and share your continents with us. You can
