Tuesday,January 13,2015
5:00 P.M. at City Hall
MEMBERS PRESENT: Scot Stokes,Vice-Chairman Lee Barndt
Chuck Rodgers
OTHERS PRESENT: Cathy Gabrian Kurt Markegard
The meeting was called to order by Vice-Chairman, Scot Stokes. There was no quorum and no action
was taken but Kurt reported on the agenda items.
Bidding for sprinkler system: Kurt said Great West will finalize the bid, stripping it down from the
original version. Kurt will do the inspections, not the engineering firm and we will handle the variable
frequency drive(VFD). It will be advertised on January 22nd and 29th,bid opening on February 5th,to
Council Workshop on February 10th and Council for approval on February 17th. The bid will specify that
the work needs to be done by May 15`b. A preconstruction meeting will be held the week of February
2nd Kurt plans to call the irrigation companies and let them know we are bidding. The bid needs to state
that sprinkler heads may need to be moved to accommodate stones. We don't want a large head spraying
directly into a tall stone and damaging it.
Kurt spoke with Dwight Fischer at Ace Electric regarding the VFD. He recommends that we go from 3-
phase back to 1-phase with a 20 horse power motor. Dwight will give us the best scenario. When the
weather improves,we will need to pull the motor to either replace or rewind it.
Kurt said the remote shut off would cost about$6,000.00 and he does not recommend doing it. The crew
needs to visually check the screens on a daily basis and they can do this when starting the pump.
The new line that was installed last year is a 6"line. There is a lot more water and the crew has been able
to do more sets with the hand pipe. The cemetery caretakers are concerned about the roads being torn up
during this process and want them fixed.
Cement headstones for baby graves: Kurt said the city will be purchasing a cement mixer and the crew
will pour them in the cemetery shop. He poured a couple and found that they need to be reinforced for
strength. We need 11 stones. One of the `unknown' stones has cracked from the weight of the mowers.
Row markers: The city has purchased the rebar and aluminum caps and they just need to be stamped and
installed. The crew will work on it as time allows. The committee briefly discussed ways of marking the
sections within the cemetery.
The next meeting will fall on February 10th and the committee can review the bids prior to the Council
Workshop.
The meeting adjourned at 5:33 p.m.
Respectfully Submitted,
Cathy Gabrian
