HomeMy WebLinkAboutLibrary Board Minutes 10.14.2014 Minutes of the Laurel Public Library Board of Trustees October 14, 2014 Attending Rose Marie Kline Bruce McCullough Dixie Feller(6:08) Claire Killebrew Nancy Schmidt Minutes Minutes for September 2014 were read. Bruce motioned the minutes be approved as read, Rose Marie seconded the motion. Motion passed. Correspondence The library received a check from the Montana State Library in the amount of$8,987.02 for the Federation and Laurel Public Library funding in FY14/15. Nancy gave a breakdown of the expenses that the funding will be used for with$1,555.02 going directly to library grant expenses and the rest for the Federation. Circulation Report Traffic: down 6.9%; circulation: all items circulated totaled 3,314 (including 271 eBooks), book circulation was down 4%,media circulation was up 13.05%, eBook checkouts for this month was 9.6% of total book circulation; computers: internet use was down 10.13%, children's use was down 702.5%, wi-fi use down 6.4%;patron cards: city patrons make up 70.69%of circulating users, county are 22.79% and 6.52%make up all other users. There were 56 recorded technology assists for September. Old Business The Board completed its job evaluation for Nancy Schmidt as the director. The results were considered positive by all members. The original evaluation will be taken to City Hall to be placed in Nancy's employee folder with a copy retained at the library. Nancy attended the Fall Shared Catalog meeting and Fall Workshops in Helena September 26th—29th. The meetings were very informational and included updates on the move to the new Enterprise system for the catalog. The staff at the Montana State Library has been making a number of changes to item categories in the shared catalog to help streamline searches for patrons. Workshops on employee evaluations, community assets, courier project, Partners Sharing Group, and Birds of a Feather dinner were attended by Nancy. New Business Nancy attended the Federation Coordinators Meeting in Helena October 6th& 7th. A group meeting was held on the afternoon of the 6th with all 6 Federation coordinators in attendance as well as Sarah McHugh, Cara Orbin and Jennie Stapp from the State Library. Attendance at the Montana State Commissioners' meeting on the 7th was mandatory to give a report on the status of our respective Federations. Annual statistics will be due at the Montana State Library on November 19, 2014.Nancy will be working on pulling the numbers together to complete her report. She will present the finished report at the next Board meeting. The next book sale is scheduled for Oct 21st—25th, 2014. The sale will run 9:00 am to 7:00 pm on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday; 9:00 am to 3:00 pm on Friday and Saturday. Set up will begin on Monday, October 20th for anyone interested in helping. We will also need someone to work the sale during open hours if anyone is available. Darlene and Mike have stated that they will be more than willing to help with the majority of the setup and work schedule. Other Addressing the Board Next regular meeting December 9, 2014—Bruce motioned that the November meeting be cancelled since it falls on a holiday and the library is closed. Rose Marie seconded the motion. Motion passed. Dixie motioned the Board meeting be adjourned, Rose Marie seconded the motion. Meeting adjourned at 6:49 pm. Respectfully submitted, Nancy L. Schmidt
