?,I s Y OF LAUREL
The staff of USDA Rural Development would like to invite you to attend our annual one-day program
information workshop. This year's workshop," Understanding the Opportunities in Rural Montana", will
be held at the Bozeman Holiday Inn on Thursday, March 28, 2002. Montana U.S. Senator Conrad Burns
will be our special luncheon speaker, and the Deputy Under Secretary for USDA Rural Development has
been invited to participate in the workshop sessions.
Registration for the workshop will begin at 8:00 a.m., with the workshop concluding at approximately
3:30 p.m. A tentative agenda is attached for your information. This workshop is designed to provide
information regarding Rural Development programs to lenders, Tribal leaders, planners, local
development organizations, public officials, and others involved in economic and community
development activities in the State. The workshop sessions will focus on the following program areas:
Community Facilities; Housing; Water & Waste Water; Distance Learning/Telemedicine; Business
and Industry; and Cooperatives. Please review the attached agenda carefully so that you can select the
workshop session that will be most beneficial to you or your organization.
In order to compete with other projects for Rural Development funds, it is important that you attend this
workshop. Individuals, agencies, and organizations that have needs in any of the four program areas will
be presented with program information, new regulations, the application process, and funding levels for
this fiscal year. Your participation in these workshops is essential to your understanding of the programs'
requirements and successful completion of application materials.
In recent years, our Agency has become very aggressive in obtaining funds for Montana. Over the past
five years, USDA Rural Development has expended more than $574 million dollars in rural Montana
communities. One of the major purposes of this meeting is to insure that all areas of Montana have an
opportunity to benefit from these resources.
There is no fee for the workshops or luncheon; however, so that adequate meeting space can be
secured, please confirm your attendance by returning the enclosed registration form or calling the
program area of your choice by March 4, 2002. PLEASE NOTE - ONE PHONE CALL WILL
REGISTER YOU FOR ANY WORKSHOP
