CITY COUNCIL COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE
SEPTEMBER 4, 2001 6:30 P.M.

Water will be kept in the swimming pool during the winter months. Public Works is
contacting MMIA to determine whether or not the pool should be covered.
The grass at the soccer field is not mature enough to allow it to be used for this soccer season.
The school district will provide the maintenance for the soccer field. Final approval of the
Fish Wildlife and Parks Grant has not yet been received. Work on the restrooms will begin
next spring.
The Olympic Torch Committee met with representatives of the city recently. Ken Olson is
forming a committee with representatives from the school district, the police, ambulance and
fire departments, and several citizens to organize activities while the Olympic torch is in
Laurel.
Smokey has received several complaints regarding weeds.
Mary reminded the council that registrations are due this week for the League of Cities and
Towns Annual Convention in Great Falls on October 3-5th. Rooms have been reserved at the
Hawthorne Inn.
Mayor Rodgers, Gay Easton and Larry McCann met with the Corps of Engineers today. The
city will probably receive additional FEMA money for the water intake, but a final decision
has not been made.
Dan Dart recently called and sent e-mail to Senator Burns' and Senator Baucus' offices
regarding the school resource officer application. Dwight McKay responded and expressed
an interest. Mike Zuhoski sent the requested e-mail, which prompted Senator Burns to talk to
the appropriate people on the issue. The selections will be made on September 15th.
