ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 2.12.80 OF THE LAUREL MUNICIPAL CODE
RELATING TO APPOINTMENT OF OFFICERS.
WHEREAS, the appointment powers of the mayor need to be redefmed to be consistent with state
statutes;
WHEREAS, it is m the best interests of the residents of the City of Laurel to pass such an ordinance;
IT IS HEREBY ORDAINED by the City Council for the City of Laurel, Montana, that the LAUREL
MUNICIPAL CODE is hereby amended as is set forth below.
CHAPTER 2.12.80 shall be amended as follows:
A. The executive offices of the city shall be the mayor, who shall act as chief executive officer of the city,
and one city clerk-treasurer, who may act as ex-officio tax collector. The mayor may further appoint, with the
advice and consent of the council, one city clerk-treasurer, who shall be ex-~fficio city assessor; one chief of
police; one city attorney; one director of public works; one city engineer; one maintenance director; one public
utilities director; and any other officers necessary to carry out the provisions of this title. The council from time
to time, by ordinance, or by resolution, or by other appropriate means, may prescribe the duties of all appointed
officers and fix the compensation of each, subject to the limitations contained in state law and city ordinance.
The city attorney shall be appointed for a mo-year renu, and all other appointed officers under this title shall be
appointed to a four-year term coinciding with the term of thc mayor.
Delete Chapters 2.16; 2.28; 2.32; 2.36; 2.44; 2.48; 2.52; and 2.58.
This ordinance shall become effective thirty (30) days after final passage by the City Council and
approved by the Mayor.
